My desk is my home base, where I come at the end of the day
and take those deep breaths that give me sanity again. It is where I sit and
get ready every morning as I put on my makeup and pick out jewelry. It is also
where I attempt to put my brain into homework mode. Sometimes this happens,
most of the time it doesn’t.
But I put a little note on my poster that says “Undaunted
& Determined”. It’s there between a picture of my compassion child, Lisni,
and a quote from the wonderful Audrey Hepburn. It’s written in my loopy, childish handwriting
that my sister mocks, but I didn’t want it to be glitzy and glamorous. I wanted
it to be real. I put it at my eye level so that when I put in hours at this
little desk I am reminded of my mission for 2014.
At the beginning of the New Year I like to pick words to
focus on. Resolutions are easily forgotten and broken, however picking a theme
and finding ways to apply that to each day is what I like to go with. My favorite
person ever, and writing inspiration, Shauna Neiquist brought this idea to my
mind and I am in love with it.
I have declared this the year of being Undaunted &
Determined. As I toasted and brought in 2014 with Tim and my family I was hit
with this amazing sense that 2014 would be amazing. I decided that this was the
year that I was to live Undaunted. The powerful and wonderful Christine Cain
wrote a book by that title and if you haven’t read it then you should because it
is amazing. Anyway, back on track. I wanted to challenge myself to be better
this year. Things like England and internships and just life in general are
happening all around me right now and I want to be ready and willing to reach
out and grab them with both hands. Thus, I choose to try to be Undaunted &
Determined every day.
I realize this post is totally randomly timed. However, if
you have some passions and desires for this year any time is the perfect time
to start.
Think about who you want to be and then fight to become her
or him.
Be intentional, be passionate and work as hard as you can to
become someone you’re proud of; one day at a time, one accomplished mission
after the other.
Find your life.
Find your love.
Find your words.
